Do I need a barcode to scan a product?
No. IngredientSays works from a photo of the ingredient list text on the packaging — not a barcode. This means it works for any product anywhere in the world, including store-brand products, international imports, and freshly made items that have no barcode at all. Just photograph the ingredient text and the AI handles the rest.
What product types can IngredientSays analyze?
IngredientSays supports seven product categories: food and drinks, beauty and skincare, pet food, dietary supplements, personal care products, baby products, and home cleaning products. Each category uses a tailored scoring model — a cosmetic ingredient scored for skin safety is evaluated very differently from a food ingredient scored for nutritional impact.
How accurate is the AI health score?
The health score is based on established ingredient safety databases and published research, then ranked using an LLM trained to understand ingredient interactions, concentration risks, and category-specific safety benchmarks. The analysis is best understood as informed guidance rather than medical advice. We always recommend consulting a healthcare professional for specific health conditions or dietary requirements.
Is my data private? Where do my photos go?
Your uploaded images are stored in our secure object storage only for the duration of the analysis and automatically deleted within 24 hours unless you explicitly save a scan to your history. We do not sell or share your data. The analysis result (ingredients + scores) is cached in your account for history and to serve cached results for identical ingredient lists in the future — no re-analysis needed, and no additional processing of your image.
Which languages are supported?
IngredientSays supports English, Sinhala, Tamil, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Chinese. The language is auto-detected from your browser settings and can be changed manually in your profile. The AI analysis always runs in English internally, but all UI text, ingredient safety cards, and condition flags are displayed in your selected language.
